We have a bus! The Beat Bus! Set to make its debut in late 2025, The Beat Bus is a longtime dream turned reality of South Florida Center for Percussive Arts Founder, Brandon Cruz. Made possible by the Templeton Family Foundation and a generous anonymous donor.
The SFCPA will bring drumming activities to schools in the areas of West Kendall and South Dade through our new Beat Bus initiative. The Beat Bus is a new mobile Percussion experience which brings interactive drumming activities to the community.
Our goal is to create a mobile, educational, interactive group activity focused on music and rhythm. The Beat Bus is inspired by a similar project successfully created in Boston by KadenceArts, a past collaborator of the South Florida Center for Percussive Arts. Using this model, the opportunity to turn public spaces into venues for exposure, enjoyment, and participation in music is incredibly flexible. Hand Drumming, Bucket Drumming, Marimba Performances, and educational presentations can be taken to parks, libraries, street fairs, and more! With its future fun, uniquely painted exterior, people will see the Beat Bus and know that an exciting activity for all ages is going to take place!
The Beat Bus will connect people in the community through the power of playing music together. Percussion is fun and intuitive, giving participants of all ages and abilities positive feedback with just a few minutes into experimentation. Public spaces will transform into a stage for collective participation through playing percussion, an art form deeply rooted in Miami culture.
The Beat Bus project is currently underway, we expect the project to make it’s debut late 2025. Stay tuned!
